Men
are optional. That was the credo Emma Chandler’s suffragette aunts taught her
and why she started a successful women’s colony in Harper’s Station, Texas. But
when an unknown assailant tries repeatedly to drive the women out, Emma is
forced to admit they might need a man after all. One who can fight. And there
is only one she trusts enough to ask.
Malachi Shaw has finally earned the respect he's always craved by becoming an explosives expert for the railroad. Yet when Emma’s telegram arrives, he leaves his job behind and rushes to Harper's Station to repay the girl who once saved his life. Only she’s not a girl any longer. She’s a woman with a mind of her own and a smile that makes a man imagine a future he doesn’t deserve.
As the danger intensifies, old feelings grow and deepen, but Emma and Mal will need more than love to survive.

Being the first book in Karen's new series, Ladies of Harper Station, No Other Will Do did a magnificent job in introducing us to a good number of characters, all with different personalities that I can't wait to explore in the subsequent books. Not only that, the town of Harper Station serves as a great backdrop, with enough controversies within and beyond to give this series a splendid jumping point. And speaking of personalities, mind I tell you, both Emma and Malachi (aka Mal) captured my heart. I love Emma's spunk (spoiler alert!! She kissed him first!) And Malachi, with his brooding and protective heart, o, my! Swoon-worthy!!!
No Other Will Do has shown us that no other will do. Emma and Malachi are the couple to root for. Andrew and Lewis are kids we can adore. Betty is one tough cookie that we can't help but love. Grace and Helen seems so different, but their story will sure fascinate us. And who could forget Tori and Mr. Porter? That story needs to be touched as soon as possible. Karen Witemeyer has not only given us a delightful romance or characters to love, but a mystery that might push this from romance to a suspense category. Fun, charming and full of spunk, No Other Will Do will gratify any historical fiction fan.
