Two months in the making! (All my fault, since I had this in my 'to post' section for the LONGEST time!) I'm SOOO excited to share with you this exclusive interview with the Senior Art Director of HarperCollins Christian Publishing , Kristen V. Ingebretson on cover designs!  Below are just some of the awesome covers they have! So can you tell what are the covers I used in the background??!! *NOTE:   This post contains affiliate links with no cost to you. Interview with Kristen Hello Kristen!  I, like many readers are quite interested in the process of cover design and how a book gets its cover. So here goes!  1. When do designers start working on a cover design for a new book?   I’ll start working on the front cover about 9 months to a year before the book shows up in the bookstore. We have to have covers ready for a sales conference that is about 6 months before the book goes on sale, so we are always working toward that deadline...

Guest Post & Giveaway: A Publicist*s Dream Part 2 by Amy Green of Bethany House Publishers

We finish the week with Part 2 of   "A Publicist's Dream: How to Help Authors" by  Amy Green of Bethany House Publishers . Don't forget the giveaways associated with these posts! continued from Part 1 . . . Don’t be Entitled Hear this in love, okay? Sometimes it can be a little hard to know how to respond to the (many) messages and emails I get asking for free books. I’d love to approve all NetGalley requests and give every blogger copies of all our books and provide a truckload to each and every retired reader in the United States. Seriously. But since that conflicts with my goal of helping our authors have successful careers, I just can’t. I know many people understand this, and I’m never offended when someone makes a request. I just want to impress on them that my first duty is to support our authors, so I may need to say no. Again, it’s perfectly fine to ask an author if they need an influencer and to enjo...

Guest Post & Giveaway: A Publicist*s Dream by Amy Green of Bethany House Publishers

We're back with  Amy Green of Bethany House Publishers to give us more insight in the publishing world, from a publisher's side with "A Publicist's Dream: How to Help Authors."  Welcome back, Amy!  "A Publicist's Dream: How to Help Authors" I love chatting with readers, so I’m delighted to be here today talking about books, authors, and the behind-the-scenes of marketing. I’m Bethany House’s fiction publicist, which essentially means I do the grab-bag marketing tasks of anything not paid advertising—sending out review copies, planning contests, scheduling book tours, running our social media, setting up interviews, and generally being excited about our novels. Because of this, I’m sometimes asked by enthusiastic readers (my favorite kind!) what they can do to promote authors and their books. And do I ever have answers for you. Some are obvious, some are less so, but all of them matter to...

Guest Post + Giveaway: Inside the Book Publishing Process Part 2 by Amy Green of Bethany House Publishers

We start this Tuesday continuing a little tidbit of the book publishing process from Amy Green of Bethany House Publishers.  . . . continued from Part I Meanwhile, the timeline over in marketing looks a little different. Our work usually starts at sales conference, when we present a future season of books to our sales team so they know how to pitch the books to buyers at stores and chains. If you never thought about the fact that people have to sell books to stores, you’re not alone. It’s a sneaky hidden step that most people don’t realize is there. At the six-to-eight month mark before release, our fiction marketing manager, Noelle, is placing ads, working on overall marketing plans, setting up special campaigns like an appearance at a festival or a book club mailing, and otherwise planning how to spend the budget money for each book.  Later on, she’ll submit those ads, attend events like the RT Booklovers Conventi...
