Where I Am Billy Graham

Image
" Where I Am : Heaven, Eternity, and Our Life Beyond" by Billy Graham is as inspiring as his usual sermons.  He is already in his nineties but his words are intense and heartfelt all the same. His insight into all 36 chapters, running from Genesis through to Revelations fascinates me and in all, motivates as well as scares me. It motivates me because it inspires me to be more, do more and accept the love of our Lord Jesus. It scares me a little because there is more beyond death. Is it heaven or hell, there is a level of eternity and life beyond that will awe us.  Read this and reread it, along with your Bible, find peace and knowledge. Released Date: September 29, 2015 NOTE:  I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from the publisher, Thomas Nelson Publishers, through Net Galley for an honest review. TO PURCHASE: Amazon , ChristianBook , IndieBound                             ...

America is Strong

Image
What does America mean to you? What does it stand for? On what principles was America born and built on?  What does being an American mean? What is conservatism? Is it just old-school and outdated traditional principles? Questions, that if you don't know the answer to, find out.  For a start, I would recommend "America the Strong:Conservative Ideas to Spark the Next Generation" by William J. Bennett and John T. E. Crib , a new book that focus on providing a good and solid understanding of American values and its history. It is with a simple, basic or deep knowledge of these values that can propel this and the next generation of Americans to true freedom.  Bennett and Cribb present to readers five areas of discussion based on the acronym F.L.I.N.T.  F ree Enterprise L imited Government I ndividual Liberty N ational Defense T raditional Values From each of these F.L.I.N.T. topics, the authors easily and in a straightforward manner discuss what these ...

What to Eat When You're Pregnant Review

Image
What to Eat When You're Pregnant by Dr. Nicole M. Avena is what it says to be. It is a book for all mothers (and fathers) -to be. In short, the title of What to Eat when You're Pregnant says it all: "A week-by-week guide to support your health and your baby's development."  Dr. Avena gave readers a book that breaks down the nutrients necessary for the health of the mothers-to-be and the baby.  From the first trimester to after the pregnancy and battling some baby weight, this book will advise you the right thing to eat in addition to information on what that thing is, and the nutrients it consists of for you and the baby through-out and after your pregnancy.  Each week, a summary of "what's happening" to your body and to the baby, then followed-by a "food of the week", including one or two simple recipes; this book is a wealth of knowledge, from hormones, to vitamins, to food and recipes, to what's going on in you and to your ba...

Proven strategies for you with your kids

Image
Proven Strategies That Really Work for Teaching Gifted and Advanced Learners   is a good workbook for TEACHERS to use, not only with advance learners, but I also feel some strategies will be great with standard students. With standard students, some strategies and worksheets will be great to improve or help them advance.  Not all students can accelerate beyond their potential, but one of the more important jobs/goals of a teacher is to be able to spot and assess each students' potential in whatever subject area, be it common subjects as math and reading, versus life applications as comprehension.  This book is a great tool for teachers to assess and implement strategies to help each student. I would not rely solely on this book, but it can act as a guide to help students accelerate at their pace. This specific book is for Grades 3-8, which I find a vast range. I give it 4 stars because I like the synopsis and the strategy targets. I also think this is a great book f...

Love languages for you and I (and the little ones)

Image
The 5 Love Languages of Children by Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. Ross Campbell, MD is an easy read, but it's also 'hard'.  It's hard because it's good.  It's thought -provoking and opens your eyes on relationships, in-general and more specifically with children.  Have you read Gary Chapman's original The 5 Love Languages ? I've read it many years ago and though I know what the 5 love languages are; physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, gifts and acts of service; it's not something I make an effort in figuring out.  It is not until The 5 Love Languages of Children  that I've put more mental effort in seeking out what it means and how to apply it.  It could've been age or just stage in life that the original The 5 Love Languages  was just a book to read and to know about.  As to application, it didn't fit into my life - at least not yet.  I wasn't married or romantically involved with anyone at the time, and during the time I...

Healthy mind for a healthy mind cookbook?

Image
So do you need a healthy mind in order to even consider a "healthy mind" cookbook? Or is it vice versa, in which you are perusing a "healthy mind" cookbook in order  to have a healthy mind? Well, which ever way it is, this is the book for you. And what book is this, you ask? It is "The Healthy Mind Cookbook" by Rebecca Katz (with Mat Edelson).  " The Healthy Mind Cookbook " is just what it says, for the healthy minds, and for a healthy mind.  I just love the simplicity of this title, and the more profound meaning to what it could mean.  Since I'm not here to get philosophical, but to share my opinion on Ms. Katz' book, I'll let you figure it out.  I'm not too familiar with Rebecca Katz and therefore don't know if she's a premiere "health food guru".  However, upon doing a little further reading of her bio and on her website, (www.rebeccakatz.com) , I'm quite impressed. She is the  senior chef-in...
