Now, onto Deep Shadows. What did I expect? I wasn't too sure, especially since I've only read Vannetta's Amish stories, but  I guess I was intrigued by what "Dystopia" would be like in a Christian sense. I immediately thought of the famous Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Yet, that really wasn't dystopia, but more focused on the end in an apocalyptic sense.  Well, wait no further, because I can tell you, dystopia written in Deep Shadows by Vannetta is not about the end, it's about overcoming individually and collectively, and trusting God.

From the start, I was hooked. I couldn't stop! As the cover suggests, it's dark - not dark like a psycho thriller, but dark as it there are sad times. A disaster that struck and caused many different kinds of reaction from people, some noble, others not even close.  What makes this different than other dystopian fiction I've read like The Hunger Games, is this is very real. It is possible a solar flare can knock out power and cause much more damage on a wide range like it is in the book. How we deal with it, is at the crux of Deep Shadows, and that's also what makes this story so riveting and intense. The characters represent the extremes, and those in the middle, with depth and sincerity. The message has stuck onto me like glue, and took days to not subside. I always find books that give us something to think about, something to hold on to are the best kinds, and Deep Shadows is right there. I can't wait for Book 2 and I can't wait to see what else Vannetta has in store for us!

Choosing my Bible to work around migraine

How did you choose your current Bible? Is this your first Bible?  I'll get into how I chose my current Bible, at least my main one. First, I would like to explain why I needed a new one. It all started with my determination to focus on reading the Bible if that's the only reading (and accomplishment) I get done in the day.  Since my migraine became chronic, reading had become unbearable for a variety of reasons associated with the symptoms.  This includes reading the Word, let alone studying it. In truth, there was a huge spiritual warfare going on during the time. That's another focus for another day.  My Bible has been with me for years.
