Joshua*s Mission in Grace + Giveaway
"When loss seems overwhelming...Grace ushers in peace." (back cover)
Joshua's Mission, the second standalone book in the Plain and Simple Miracles collection from Vannetta Chapman is a story of God's grace when all seems lost.
I love that we see the imperfect ways of our characters, as well as the change and development that speaks to every one of us. These characters, Charlie, Joshua, Alton and even Alice and Becca all came together because of a hurricane that blew threw and left a path of destruction and pain. To some who've experienced natural disasters such as hurricanes, twisters, earthquakes, blizzards...etc, understands and can feel the amount of loss those in Port Aransas (Port A) encountered in Joshua's Mission. My heart stood still when the rush of water flooded through Moose's cabin and trapped Charlie, Moose and Quitz. I was holding my breath when Charlie slipped off the bogey board and teared when I read about Moose. He was a character even for the short presence in the novel. In times like these, a community to unite and how God uses each of us as part of His grace is humbling. We can all be a "tool in the hand of God." (77). As Joshua, Alton, Becca and Sarah left their Amish community in Cody's Creek to join in this relief mission in Port A to help rebuild homes that were destroyed, they've learned not only how to help, but what it means to love, humble oneself, forgiveness and to experience God's grace abundantly. A story worth every ounce to read, enjoy, consider and feel deep down in your soul.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Joshua
Kline travels from his farm in Oklahoma to offer aid to an Englisch town
on the gulf coast of Texas after a category 4 hurricane has ravaged the area.
He brings his brother with him, who needs a change of environment. The last
thing he wants for Alton is another brush with the law. He is pleasantly
surprised when he hears that Becca Troyer, the bishop’s granddaughter, plans on
joining their team.
What
will Joshua find when he arrives in Texas? A lack of electricity, certainly,
which poses little problem for the Amish volunteers as they help restore order
from destruction. But a budding romance? A call from God? And a possible
healing of his relationship with Alton?

QUOTABLE QUOTES
"...might never know. But he could pray. That was one thing he'd learned over the years. Even during situations where he wouldn't likely learn the results of a certain thing, he could still pray... [He] realized...faith was not something you had or didn't have, like brown eyes or curly hair. Faith was something you chose - an outlook on life, a way of dealing with each day's joys and disasters." (319)
"Charlie Everman understood, in the very depth of his soul, that God's mercies were new each morning, and he was grateful." (109)May you see God's mercies every day and let His grace of peace pour all over you.
