Captivating. That cover of Crazy About Alaska by Shannon L. Brown sure makes you want to go out and buy a ticket to Alaska pronto, doesn't it?!  Cover aside, Crazy About Alaska has nothing fancy - no gripping element that draws you in and refuses to let go until the last page. The characters were simply okay with not much substance or depth that makes you feel for them. I guess the cover gave me a certain level of expectation.  There really is nothing wrong with the writing, yet the story just doesn't hold my attention. Despite that, I'm still interested in checking out the rest of the series, because though you can read Crazy About Alaska as a standalone, you'll miss some references. And the covers of this series sure is pretty! What can I say, I do love my book covers!

Writing books that are fun and touch your heart

 Even though Shannon L. Brown always loved to read, she didn’t plan to be a writer. She earned two degrees from the University of Alaska, one in journalism/public communications, but didn’t become a journalist.

 Years passed. Shannon felt pulled into a writing life, testing her wings with a novel and moving on to articles. Shannon is now an award-winning journalist who has sold hundreds of articles to local, national, and regional publications.

 Shannon was born and raised in Alaska so she enjoyed writing the books in the Alaska Dream Romance series. “The Feather Chase” was her first published book and began the Crime-Solving Cousins Mystery series. The eight-to-twelve-year-olds in your life will enjoy this contemporary twist on a Nancy Drew-type mystery.

    I hope you enjoy your visit to Alaska through these books. I'm from Alaska so I take the reader to places I've been and that you probably won't see even if you do get to there in person. :)

    I hope you enjoy the series. Alaska is just as beautiful as it seems from photos and videos. I was born and raised there so I've seen quite a bit of the state. :)

Choosing my Bible to work around migraine

How did you choose your current Bible? Is this your first Bible?  I'll get into how I chose my current Bible, at least my main one. First, I would like to explain why I needed a new one. It all started with my determination to focus on reading the Bible if that's the only reading (and accomplishment) I get done in the day.  Since my migraine became chronic, reading had become unbearable for a variety of reasons associated with the symptoms.  This includes reading the Word, let alone studying it. In truth, there was a huge spiritual warfare going on during the time. That's another focus for another day.  My Bible has been with me for years.
