Book Review: Murder on the Moor by Julianna Deering, A Drew Farthering Mystery + Giveaway

There have been several worrisome incidents around those lonesome rolling hills–property desecrated, fires started, sheep and cattle scattered. Worst of all, the vicar has been found dead on the steps of the church, a crime for which Drew can discern no motive at all.

Few in the town of Bunting’s Nest seem like suspects, and Drew can’t keep his suspicions from falling on his friend’s new bride. Do her affections lie more with her husband’s money and estate, while her romantic interests stray to their fiery Welsh gamekeeper? As the danger grows ever closer, it’s up to Drew to look past his own prejudices, determine what’s really going on, and find the killer before it’s too late.

Now, how could one not love that opening scene!?! I have no idea where I've been, but Murder on the Moor by Julianna Deering is my first Drew Farthering Mystery, and certainly will not be my last. I love classic settings, and the witty dialogue was just icing on the cake. It kind of reminds me of the classic Sherlock Holmes, though without the smartiness (that's nicely putting it), but with all the charm and interesting mystery that goes on. Is it weird I also had an inkling image of Shaggy and the Scooby Doo gang? I have no idea where that came from, but it's about the fun in mysteries. Granted, there was a death involve, so really shouldn't be fun. It's just so entertaining with the characters (Beaky, o, Beaky, you are sadly lovable!), and as mentioned before the witty dialogue. The message of not judging people without first getting the chance to know them makes Murder on the Moor a story that has depth, intrigue and a little bit of romance, all mixed in the cloud of mystery. Don't want to miss this. And I have four books to catch up on with Drew.
