Timeless Love Romance Collection
Ah. What a title? "The Timeless Love Romance Collection". It does induce a certain amount of expectations or desire to see how it makes it timeless. "The Timeless Love Romance Collection" consists of 9 novella (short stories) written and probably published between 1999 through 2013 by eight different authors.
The "timeless" stories in this collection includes:
Lately, I've been in a novella craze, where I've read dozens of novellas and collections of novellas. Some were quite good (check out my book reviews sections), and some average. I do have to say that not one did I not enjoyed at all. Novellas have a way to grasp your attention. True, some may not fully explained what it needs to say and you might be left with some questions, but most, if not all of them gives you a story to indulge in for an hour or two. With "The Timeless Love Romance Collection", it's no different. What I did find interesting is that some of the stories (4 total) are connected. They have the same setting, with mentioned of characters from other novels, and especially the setting of The El Tovar Hotel and waitresses known as the Harvey Girls. Considering that each novella was written by a different author, that's something. After a little digging, Barbour Publishing published a collection called "Grand Canyon Brides" back in 2006 with the same 4 stories. And to top it off, there is an actual El Tovar Hotel & the Harvey restaurants, hence the "Harvey girls". There's a documentary and a movie film (starred Judy Garland) about the Harvey Girls. In short, starting in the 1880s, over 100,000 young women decided to leave home and travel west to work as waitresses (known as the Harvey Girls) along the transcontinental rail lines. Isn't that what makes a good book? A story (there's 9 here) that touches your heart, engage your imagination, trigger your emotions and hopefully taught you something. "The Timeless Love Romance Collection" is indeed timeless.

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Thanks for a great story and posting here. Since you wrote one of the Harvey Girl stories, how did the four of you come up with this setting? It's an interesting story, and I would love to check out the Harvey House next time I'm in that area. Thank you again!
